Bus Tour - History of Cades Cove

This event is no longer on sale.

Wednesday April 17

9:00 AM  –  1:00 PM

Location: Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center - Townsend, Tennessee

We have seats for 16 lucky GSMA members to join our bus tour of Cades Cove, a broad and verdant valley surrounded by mountains. Mark and Janet Snyder, tenured GSMA guides and stewards of Cades Cove story, take us on comfortable tour around the cove interpreting the history of this once thriving community. As a group, we will explore historic cabins, grist mills and churches. Since you won't be doing the driving, we may spot the abundant wildlife such as; black bear, white-tailed deer, fox, coyote and a variety of birds.

Mileage: 3 miles maximum
Activity Rating: Easy. This is not a hike but we will be exiting and entering the bus regularly. We may also be walking on uneven surfaces with trip hazards such as exposed roots and rocks.

What to bring: In addition to plenty of water, an appropriate amount of food for your comfort, sturdy trail shoes, your favorite field guide, binoculars and notebook, we also recommend you bring along all-weather gear, sunscreen and a backpack to make getting on and off the bus easier. A personal first-aid kit and trekking poles may be helpful as well.
