Thursday August 15

6:30 PM  –  12:30 AM

With Lloyd and Charlene Shiver

Meeting location: Cades Cove Orientation Shelter - Located before the entrance of the one-way loop road.

Event rating: Strenuous. See our Activity Rating Scale HERE. Please note that this walk will be along a paved road with some elevation gain and loss.

Mileage: 12 miles maximum. If you decide that you want to shorten your trek, you can split from the group and walk down Sparks Lane (3 miles round trip) or Hyatt Lane (7 miles round trip.)

Join us for a stroll around Cades Cove Loop Road as the full moon of August lights our way as it shines above this historic valley surrounded by majestic mountains.

During this adventure, Lloyd and Charlene Shiver will lead the group to get a different perspective of the flora, fauna and the fully restored eighteenth- and nineteenth-century structures such as the John Oliver cabin, Becky Cable's house, Missionary Baptist Church and more.

What to bring: A headlamp (preferably one with a red lens that will help your eyes adjust to the dark with less strain and is less disturbing to wildlife that is active during the night.), backpack, enough water and snacks for your comfort, rain gear and comfortable walking shoes with sturdy soles. A personal first-aid kit and trekking poles may be helpful as well.
