History Hike - Edd McKinley: Lost in 1915

This event is no longer on sale.

Saturday June 15

9:00 AM  –  2:00 PM

With Butch McDade

Meeting location: Sugarlands Visitor Center. At the flag pole.

Spend your morning with retired park ranger and author Butch McDade as he leads us on an information-packed day hike beginning with a visit to Evans Chapel Cemetery. After that, we'll head to the gravesite of a young man who succumbed to exposure in 1915 during a Smoky Mountain snowstorm. Join us as we learn about the events that lead to his death and why this story is still being told more than a century later.

Other highlights include stream scenes, native wildflowers in bloom and the potential to view wildlife in their natural habitat.

Activity rating: 3 - Moderate.
