Explore the legacy of one of the Smokies' most important personalities—Horace Kephart—with retired park ranger and author Butch McDade. A librarian-turned-woodsman, Kephart moved to the Smokies in 1904 to change his life by living among the mountain people and writing about them fondly. He also fought ardently for the formation of a national park to protect the mountains that saved his life.
