Did you know Great Smoky Mountains National Park is considered the Salamander Capital of the world? More salamanders can be found in this southern Appalachian region than anywhere else in the world (if you know where t look)! Join Liz to learn how to find and identify these fascinating animals! We'll also discuss the general biology, ecology and life histories of various species of salamanders found int he Smokies and the vital role that plays in many ecosystems.

Activity rating: 1-3 easy to moderate because we will be exploring areas in and around waterways - a salamander's habitat.

What To Bring: In addition to your binoculars and favorite GSMA publication, plenty of water, enough food for your comfort and sturdy trail shoes, we recommend you also bring all-weather gear, a hat and sunscreen. A personal first-aid kit, trekking poles, notebook and writing utensil may come in helpful as well.
